Implants

What are implants?
Dental implants are used to replace missing or unstable teeth.

They are titanium rods or screws that are fixed to the jawbone. An extension is then secured to the implant and a new crown is placed to match the colour and contours of the existing teeth.

Tooth whitening is the most common form of treatment to alter the appearance of your smile. Your dentist will apply the whitening product to your teeth, using a specially made tray which fits into your mouth like a gum-shield.

The ‘active ingredient’ in the product is usually hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. As the active ingredient is broken down, oxygen gets into the enamel on the teeth and the tooth colour is made lighter.

Once your dentist has started this treatment you will need to continue it at home.

Laser Teeth Whitening.

Laser Teeth Whitening is an amazing procedure which can benefit almost anyone with healthy teeth who would like them whiter, to have a more attractive and confident smile. At Westleigh Dental Practice, we carefully assess your teeth firstly, we than recommend the optimum laser whitening protocol for each patient.

Over time healthy teeth can often darken with age or by staining from certain foods such as coffee, red wine or smoking. But this can be resolved through laser whitening technology.

At Westleigh Dental Practice we use the “Zoom” whitening treatment which can produce a whiter and brighter smile in about one hour.

The usual procedure for fitting a crown involves shaping the tooth under local anaesthetic and then taking an impression. The impression is then sent to the laboratory along with the details of the shade to be used.

While your crown is being made, the prepared tooth can be protected with a temporary crown, which is easily removed just before fitting the permanent one. In most cases, the temporary crown is in place for about two weeks.

As with the other cosmetic treatments the dentist will discuss with you the options that are available. The dentist will also be happy to provide you with any further information that you require.

Natural Looking Dentures

The importance of natural looking dentures to the patient for replacement of partial or completely missing teeth, should not be overlooked. Although dental implants are becoming the alternative solution to dentures, natural looking dentures are there as a solution if this is the only option.
